Pricing

Pricing keeps the prices you sell at and the rules around them. Every sales line is priced by the server from the same price lists, held to the same discount limits and given the same free goods, whether it is typed in the office, taken by a rep on a visit, rung up at the till or ordered in the online store.

Part What it is
Price list A set of prices in one currency, with the dates it holds between. A Sales list prices what you sell; a Purchase list holds what your vendors charge.
Price list item One item’s price in one unit of measure, from a minimum quantity.
Default price list The sales list that prices every customer who has no list of their own, one per subsidiary.
Promotion An offer that adds free goods to an order once a line reaches a set quantity.
Price Calculation permission Lets a role type a price other than the list’s and give discounts past the limits.

Pricing lives under Sales ‣ Pricing: Price lists and Promotions. Purchase price lists sit on the same screen; how vendors are priced is in Vendor prices.

Pricing posts nothing by itself. It decides the figures on the documents that do.

When you What happens
Add a line to a quotation, order or invoice The Unit price comes from the customer’s price list at the document’s date, and the list price is kept on the line beside the price charged.
Sell from a list in another currency The list price is converted at the exchange rate of the document’s date.
Give a discount It is checked against the limits of the person giving it, then taken off before tax.
Reach a promotion’s quantity A free line is added at zero, carrying the promotion’s name, and its goods leave the warehouse with the rest.
Save the document Its prices are fixed. Changing the price list later does not reprice it.
  1. Create a sales price list and add the items’ prices.
  2. Make one list the default, so every customer has a price.
  3. Give customers with special terms their own list, on the customer’s Sales tab: see Create a customer.
  4. Read how a line’s price is found, and decide who may change prices.
  5. Set the discount limits.
  6. Add free-goods promotions when you run an offer.
