Online store

The online store lets your customers order from their phones, in your store’s app, and has your field reps deliver to their door. In the back office you draw the areas you deliver to, decide the prices and the delivery fee in each one, name the reps who cover it, and follow every order on a map until it is delivered.
Your store is a phone app, not a website. Shoppers find it under your own name and logo, and the app works only where you deliver: a shopper first drops a pin on the map, and sees the items and prices of the area that pin falls in.
How it fits together
Section titled “How it fits together”| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Service area | A delivery area you draw on the map. It names the price list the store sells from there, the warehouse whose stock it shows, the delivery fee, and the reps who deliver there. |
| Store customer | A customer in Sales, created the first time a shopper signs in to the app with their phone number. A customer you already have can sign in with the phone number on their record. |
| Store order | A sales order placed in the app. It arrives in Sales as a draft, with no rep and no warehouse yet. |
| Dispatch | The board where the office sees store orders on a map beside the reps delivering them, and hands an order to a rep. |
| Rep app | Where reps who cover an area pick up its orders, deliver them, invoice them and collect the payment. See Pick up online-store orders. |
| Customer app | Your store’s app, used by your shoppers. See the customer app guide. |
What a store order creates
Section titled “What a store order creates”A store order moves through the same documents as any order you sell, so stock and money land where they always do:
- When the shopper places the order, a draft sales order appears in Sales ‣ Transactions ‣ Orders, priced by the server, with the delivery fee as a line of its own. The reps who cover the area are alerted on their phones.
- When a rep picks up the order, or the office assigns it on Dispatch, the order is confirmed, booked to that rep and served from the rep’s van, so the goods are held there. The shopper sees Preparing.
- When the rep sets off, the order shows Out for delivery and the shopper can follow the rep on a map.
- When the rep delivers, the goods leave the van and the order shows Shipped. The rep invoices the delivery, which posts the receivable in Receivables, and records the cash the shopper pays. See Deliver an order.
- The order closes once everything on it is shipped and invoiced, and the shopper sees Completed.
Shoppers pay cash on delivery. The app takes no card or online payment.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”The back-office screens check the access level of the user doing each task:
| Task | Access level needed |
|---|---|
| See service areas | View on Storefront Admin |
| Add a service area, or change one | Create or Edit on Storefront Admin |
| Archive or restore a service area | Full on Storefront Admin |
| Open Dispatch and see store orders | View on Sales Orders |
| Assign an order to a rep, or mark it out for delivery | Approve on Sales Orders |
| See where reps are on the dispatch map | View on Field Dashboard |
The customer app checks no role. Browsing the catalog needs no account; the cart, checkout, orders, addresses and profile need the shopper to be signed in with the code sent to their phone, and each shopper sees only their own orders and addresses.
Where to start
Section titled “Where to start”- Get the pieces the store relies on ready, as listed in Before your store opens.
- Draw your first service area and name the reps who deliver there.
- Charge for delivery, if you do.
- Read how shoppers become customers, and give a customer their own prices.
- Each day, follow store orders on Dispatch and assign the ones no rep has taken.
- Give your shoppers the customer app guide.
